ARE YOU THE PACK LEADER?

Your relationship will grow by leaps and bounds if you are truly the pack leader.  I have taught this concept for over 30 years.  Thinking of an obedience class?...........consider this. 

If you are the leader, obedience will follow naturally, but it does not work in the reverse.  If you are having dog problems, group obedience classes may not be the place to start.  If you are not the leader, you can attend as many obedience classes as you want, but respectful behavior will not naturally follow.  Learning obedience commands is not the same as learning to communicate with your dog.  Most of the clients I get have had two group obedience classes before coming to me, and still their dog has disrespectful or uncontrolled behavior, but after my six- hour program they have the education they need to ensure a great bond and correct respect from both sides.  Owners need to learn to give dogs what they need as well, and if you are not doing this, all the training in the world will not help you.  I empower owners with the knowledge to be that leader, communicate with their dogs, and in the end do most of their training themselves.  I pride myself on my clients not needing me again after my six- hour program.  If you decide you want to hone your obedience skills even more, then the obedience class afterwards will mean much more to you and your dog.     

We educate your whole family and train all your dogs.  We study and emphasize a proper pack structure, which is hardwired in a dog, and usually not attended to in families.  No matter what training technique you choose, or what disciplines you go into, this one basic thing will forever be the perfect beginning, and that is understanding pack structure in your family.  We offer theory training, pack leadership work, specialized courses, even basic obedience.  We make house and farm calls.  I have expanded in 2010 to offer Equine and Canine work combined, and Livestock Guardian Dog work for all livestock.  Also now offered is an equine and farm management program.  Great if you need help getting ready for that first horse, or need to design your horse facility, be it small or large.        

For search work call, we are on call 24.7.  I am one of very few highly experienced scent trainers to offer this service to the public.  No more unit hassles, let me get you trained first, on your time, then join the unit.  Also offering service dog training.  We train you to train your dog, helping you along the way.  This is a much less expensive way to obtain a service dog.  Your insurance company may even cover the training, or you can wait years on a list for a donated dog.

Offering "Puppy Boot Camp", where puppies get the value of my formed pack, and 24/7 training. This is in my home, so no kennel for my boot campees. Great for puppies pulled from litters to early, and those puppies that just have very bad manners. Some young adult dogs might be accepted.

Offering "Puppy Parties".  A safe alternative to dog parks for those young dogs.  We allow puppies to socialize safely in a controlled environment, and you learn why your puppies do certain behaviors.  You also learn about basic drives and instinct at my puppy parties, and the value is unmistakable.

My name is Kim Willis, I am the owner of Kustom K9 Training, and the picture that graces most of the pages on this site is my very loving pack of Rhodesian Ridgebacks.  All have jobs to keep them mentally and physically healthy.  Four are search and rescue dogs and the fifth was the City of Chesapeake "CERT", Community Emergency Response Team's Mascot, and Animals in Disaster advocate, as well as a Therapy Dog (gone to the rainbow bridge in 2010).  It is important that if you are going to have a dog, to do something with them.  It does not have to be complicated, but can be as simple as an everyday walk that we can help you turn into an adventure for your dog.    

Please take the time to read my bio so you can get to know me.  I have been training since I was 7 years old, but I had a career in Law Enforcement as well.  After retiring as a Master Police Officer/Detective in 1999 I got into volunteer K9 search and rescue full time.  Because volunteer search work is an expensive endeavor, I formally created Kustom K9 Training tin 2007 to enable me to continue my volunteer work.  ALL my profits go to support the training and support of my search and rescue dogs.  This allows me to continue volunteering for law enforcement, but to also help others get into the field of search and rescue, which can be very politically charged.  It also allows me to expand into providing lost pet search dogs, and for the training of service dogs both for mental and physical needs.      

We offer unusual ways for you to really enjoy time with your dogs, and if you are a professional breeder we can help you get "working dog" titles on your dogs to enhance your breeding lines.  This is just something not normally available to breeders.  Besides search and rescue scent work, we can also assist with the development of a unit.  Search and Rescue is an industry that is extremely hard to be successful in, and we can increase those chances dramatically.  

I have current certification certificates on hand, and you are welcome to come interview me, and get scent work demonstrations.  When you employ us to help you with your dog, you are also helping me to continue lifesaving volunteer work.

I have been ask to be the leader trainer on a long awaited study providing psychiatric service dog training to war veterans.  It is in the process of paperwork at this time at the Walter Reed Hospital in DC.  With so much red tape, there is not set date as of yet for it to start.  This study will show how valuable dogs are for all kinds of psychiatric problems especially PTSD.
