Kustom K9 Training

Horse and Dog training

I worked with a friends livestock guardian dog one day, and then went home to work my horses.  I was lungeing a mare, and all my dogs wanted to be in the circle with me.  So that is where they stayed during the lunge time.  It was quite funny looking.  Later I realized I took this bond, and communication for granted, where as it may not always be this way on other farms.  This is what lead me to offer training services that includes both horses and dogs.  At times harmony may not exist for many reasons.  My back ground in horses and dogs makes me uniquely qualified to assist in creating this harmony.

There is no set way to approach every situation.  All dogs and horses will learn differently, and any kind of training takes patience.

My goal is to help those that have dogs, horses, or other livestock that do not get along, to live more like a family.  This is not a herding thing, but after harmony is back, some types of droving and holding can be taught.  For actual herding, I will send you to those that have the stock, and place to do herding.

My next goal is that your dog be helpful on the farm such as a safe guardian, meaning a response trained bark, not a dog trained to bite, which is to much liability on a farm where people come and go.  We can handle the training of a true guard dog, but this should not be on a public farm, unless the dog is secured properly during working hours.

One of my favorite things to teach dogs is courier work.  Two of my dogs act as farm couriers, and can carry most anything asked of them if not to heavy.  Even though my barn is only 100 feet from my house, it is so fast and convenient for the dog to run things back and forth when needed.  Plus my dogs love it.

All training session would fall under private lessons and those fees apply.  The hourly fee is $60, unless you do my six-hour program, which is $300.  This is a saving of a whole hour of training.  A house/farm/locational fee is $10.00 per 15 minutes of travel round trip.  I am in Chesapeake, near Great Bridge, and can get to most places in 30 to 45 minutes.

I welcome those wishing to interview me, see my dogs and farm.  Just call for an appointment time.

Thank you for visiting and considering my new equine and livestock based services.
